Little Italy Neighborhood Association Community Mural
The Little Italy Neighborhood Association (LINA) in partnership with M. Fierro & Sons undertook a community mural project in the spring of 2010. The location of the mural is on the side wall of M. Fierro & Sons located at 1025 N. Union Street…the gateway to Little Italy. The Little Italy Neighborhood Association chose Maria Pepe of PaintWorks (302-421-8392) and Louis Wilson (302-276-4478) to paint the mural. It took the muralist 4 months to complete the artistic rendition of the Bridge of Sighs from Venice, Italy, the Fierro cheese ricotta container, and the outdoor courtyard.
In addition to the mural, the Little Italy Neighborhood Association worked hand-hand with Lenny Wilson from the Delaware Center for Horticulture to restore and landscape the hill along Union street leading up to the mural. All Season’s Landscaping performed all of the preparation and landscaping to beautify the south entry into Little Italy such a site to see.
It has been 10 years since LINA revealed the “Welcome to Little Italy” archway on Lincoln Street. The LINA mural and landscaping is the newest community project addition to Little Italy. We would like to personally thank the muralists Maria and Louis, United Way of Delaware, Cornerstone West/West End Neighborhood House, Aldo Fabris, the 7th District Neighborhood Planning Council, our city council officials, and many others that made this project such a success!!
